Bonkan is in the old town of Hvar, on the slope above the harbour. Both units have a private balcony looking out over the harbour, the old town roofs and the Paklinski Islands beyond.
Free Wi-Fi and a private bathroom in every unit; the studio adds a kitchenette. Free parking on the street, and bicycles, scooters and cars can be rented a few minutes away. Restaurants and beaches are all within walking distance, and the property is easy to reach on foot or by car.

Fort Španjola was built after a gunpowder explosion destroyed the old fortress in 1579. It gives you the best panorama of the town, and it's a 15-minute walk from the door. Wear proper shoes — parts of the path are narrow and slippery. Go at sunset; there's a café at the top.
Napoleon Fort sits higher up and gives a full 360° view of the island. Reachable on foot or by car.
The Arsenal and Hvar Theatre. The Arsenal faces the waterfront at the southwest corner of the Piazza, rebuilt from a 13th-century warehouse between 1579 and 1611. The theatre was added on the first floor in 1612, entered from the Belvedere terrace above the Fontik.
The Cathedral of St. Stephen and the Bishop's Palace close the eastern end of the Piazza, on the site of a medieval Benedictine monastery. On the northern side you'll find Renaissance buildings including the Paladini Palace and the unfinished Gothic Hektorović Palace.
The Loggia and Leroj clock tower are all that remain of the Governor's Palace. The tower is open to visitors and worth the climb.
The Franciscan Monastery on the cape south of town dates from the late 15th century — go for the Last Supper painting and the garden. Further east, outside the walls, Hanibal Lucić's summer residence (1530) is now a museum and a fine example of a Renaissance country estate.
And the town itself: the old streets are the point.
Mlini on the Paklinski Islands is our favourite — about 15 minutes by boat from town.
Pokonji Dol is roughly a 30-minute walk, good if you like walking.
Heading toward the town centre and turning right takes you along a stretch of beaches and beach bars, including Hula Hula and Falko.
By scooter or car you can reach Mala Milna, Dubovica and Zaraće — all worth the trip.
Breakfast at the Hotel Park restaurant, two minutes away, or SOL on the main square.
Seafood: Junior and Macondo. Pizza and pasta: La Bocca. Traditional Dalmatian: Menego. Something simple: Hvar Brewing Co. or Let's TACO 'bout Hvar.
Our three favourites overall are Dalmatino, Mediterraneo and Val Marina. They're pricier, but worth it — Mediterraneo especially for steak.
The TripAdvisor list is fairly accurate too. Book a table — in season you'll need to.
Hvar makes serious wine. In town, the tasting at restaurant Passarola is a good option. On the island, Tomić winery in Jelsa is the one to book. Contact them directly to reserve.
Rentals are just behind the Cathedral near the bus station: convertible VW Beetles, scooters, quad bikes, electric bikes. We don't recommend a specific company — prices and service are much the same.
Boats can be rented with a skipper or self-drive, along the docks in the town centre. Look for the wooden barrels on the waterfront and ask there. Kayaks are in front of Hotel Amfora.
Good places to reach by boat: Red Rocks, the Paklinski Islands, and the island of Vis. If you'd rather not rent, taxi boats leave from in front of the Arsenal.
